Inspired by her Life

Lillian caught my eye as I walked through the Valdez City Museum's historical displays on a rainy August morning. She was looking out from her spot on the wall, chin slightly raised and eyes steady. The portrait was formal and Lillian looked somewhat stiff, with not a strand of hair out of place. She was wearing a pleated gown similar to one I had used briefly at a graduation ceremony many years back. There was a confidence air about her I liked, and I knew right away I wanted to paint her portrait. After a little research on her life, I was inspired even more.

Lillian Moore, born in 1878 in Massachusetts, graduated from Vassar and embarked on an adventure to the Klondike to seek her fortune. She learned quickly that her best chance to make a living was to provide services and supplies to other prospectors.
